Spotlight on packaging in the July issue of PrintWeek


While waiting for the inevitable third wave, the fact remains that the last 14 months have been difficult for the industry. The pandemic has left companies grappling with a confused knot of logistical disruption, price hikes and unavailability of raw materials. The printing industry is at a crossroads. To emerge stronger, industry players must adopt a futuristic mindset to face the rapidly changing era – or risk being left behind.

The July 2021 issue of Print week delves into this issue and asks a cross section of industry players how Covid-19 has forced them to move in new directions.

In the “Leadership” section, Raju Kutty of Purandara Laser Technologies tells Ramu Ramanathan how his company survived the onslaught of a pandemic and held its head high while providing an overview of Kochi’s packaging boom.

Despite this gloomy picture, the packaging industry is doing really well in the midst of the pandemic. The cover of the July issues focuses on Paul and Mike, a Kerala chocolate brand that made history after winning silver for its’ vegan chocolate with 64% Sichuan black pepper and orange »During the World Final of the International Chocolate Awards.

In other packaging related features, Noel D’Cunha talks to Sahil Rao of Akruti Offset in Pune, who says challenges are driving change, positive or consumer with its anti-counterfeit packaging. There’s also Kolkata-based Libako, who has launched into racing with a new Gallus.

In the ‘Paper’ segment, Deepak Mittal, chairman of FPTA, explains that the situation can be painful for Indian paper makers in the short term, but that the outlook is bullish in the medium and long term.

In the “Business” segment, Kentaro Imafuku of Fujifilm shares the company’s message to the print world: Know thyself.

In the “Edition” segment, Print week ask seven publishing professionals how book publishers are handling the pandemic, especially wave two, in terms of workflow, on-time delivery, runs, quality production and sales?
